Good Housekeeping Seal Application Database
Kentech-U partnered with the Good Housekeeping Institute to modernize and streamline their Seal application process, improving the experience for both applicants and internal staff.
Our Client
The Good Housekeeping Institute, part of Hearst Corporation, conducts rigorous quality assurance testing on a wide range of products. Products that meet their standards are awarded the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, a mark of quality and reliability trusted by consumers. Hearst Corporation referred Kentech-U as a strategic development partner to enhance the Institute’s application workflow.
The Goal
The Seal Application Database had not been updated in over nine years, resulting in slow, inefficient, and non-intuitive workflows for both applicants and internal staff. Good Housekeeping sought a digital solution to:
• Improve user experience and system efficiency
• Eliminate outdated features and technical debt
• Enhance performance and stability
• Add functionality for better team collaboration and streamlined seal review and approval
Kentech-U was tasked with modernizing the platform while maintaining the integrity and reliability of the Seal process.
Our Plan & Process
Kentech-U began with an extended design phase, conducting multiple rounds of wireframing and UX design to create more productive workflows. The team collaborated closely with the Good Housekeeping Institute in working sessions to incorporate real-time feedback into the design.
For development:
• Backend: Django & Django Rest Framework
• Frontend: React Native
• Database: PostgreSQL with Elasticsearch for advanced search capabilities
This approach ensured a modern, scalable, and user-friendly platform for all stakeholders.
The Results
The updated platform automates and simplifies the Seal application process, providing:
• Faster, more efficient submissions for applicants
• Streamlined review workflows for internal teams
• Smart fields that adapt forms based on product type
• Improved collaboration and communication within the Institute
Additionally, Kentech-U refreshed the Good Housekeeping brand guidelines and visual identity as part of the redesign. The newly launched database has already improved operational efficiency and usability, and Kentech-U looks forward to its continued success.
